Demand for data science and machine learning skills is high and getting higher. The supply of people with this skills is still fairly low. R is one of the most popular languages for machine learning / data science and tends to be more accessible to non-programmers than Python or Java. In this session, Brooke will introduce you to the R statistical programming language and how to use the popular open-source R development environment, RStudio. We'll read in and manipulate datasets, summarize, tabulate, and plot the data. Finally, we'll complete a basic data science task and use a machine learning algorithm to make a prediction. Basic statistical knowledge is helpful but not essential to participation in this session. The sky is the limit from there, and Brooke will also include references to trusted sources for learning more.
